Nano-materials with narrow particle size distribution (quantum dots)

TThe strong influence of microwave fields on the crystallization of solid solution crystals is well known in literature. Compared to classical methods, systems with almost the same particle size are obtained. Thus, for example, the crystallization of metal oxides or sulfides can be controlled by microwave fields in the direction of a more uniform particle size distribution. The morphology is also influenced.

Residence times and temperature gradients have a considerable influence on crystallization. Since the heating is three-dimensional due to microwave fields, the temperature gradients between “inside” and “outside” are only small.

With conventional heating, the large temperature gradient can be a problem. With microwave technology, the energy input can be controlled very precisely so that the temperature can be controlled to less than +/- 1 Kelvin.
